The journey begins with a dedicated Ma Da hide day before moving into Cat Tien for repeated photography sessions, allowing the guide to revisit productive locations rather than following a rigid checklist.

Depart Ho Chi Minh City early to spend the core of your day inside chosen hides across Ma Da’s lowland forest. Fieldwork prioritizes quiet, patient sessions for vibrant forest species over fast-paced movement between sites. Transfer to Cat Tien in the late afternoon and settle inside or close to the national park.

Spend two full days working Cat Tien’s lowland forest. Morning sessions may focus on productive hides for pittas, Germain’s Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese Fireback and other ground birds, while afternoon sessions can shift to forest tracks, riverine habitat and suitable edges for kingfishers, broadbills and additional subjects. Productive sites may be revisited when light and bird activity justify more time.

Camera body, suitable telephoto lens, spare batteries and memory cards, binoculars, lightweight field clothing, comfortable walking shoes, insect repellent and rain protection. A monopod or compact support can be useful during longer hide sessions.
