Go beyond the forest edge

The first day introduces Cat Tien’s forest at an easy pace. The second goes deeper into the park toward Bau Sau, before a slower final morning brings the journey back to the forest around park headquarters.

Best for

Nature-minded travellers, couples and families with older children who want more than a short forest escape but do not need a specialist birding or wildlife itinerary.

Keep in mind

The Bau Sau day includes around 10 km of walking through tropical forest. The terrain is generally manageable, but heat, humidity and rain can make it more demanding.

Begin with Cat Tien’s accessible forest trails, spend a full day going deeper toward Bau Sau, then finish with a slower morning close to park headquarters.

Day 1 — Ho Chi Minh City → Cat Tien
Meet the forest

Leave Ho Chi Minh City in the morning and travel north toward Cat Tien. After lunch and check-in, begin with an easy forest walk through the giant-tree landscape, including the Tung Tree and mature Lagerstroemia forest. After dinner, join an open-vehicle night safari and experience how the atmosphere changes after dark.

Day 2 — Bau Sau Wetlands
Go deeper into Cat Tien
Forest transfer · 10 km return walk · Bau Sau · wetlands & wildlife
After breakfast, travel deeper into the park by vehicle before continuing on foot through approximately five kilometres of tropical forest to Bau Sau. Take time to rest and experience the wetland landscape before walking back through the forest and returning to the park centre in the late afternoon.

Day 3 — Cat Tien → Ho Chi Minh City
A quieter forest morning

Start slowly with coffee and the sounds of the forest waking around you. After breakfast, enjoy a gentle cycling or walking session around the botanical forest and nearby trails before checking out, having lunch and returning to Ho Chi Minh City.

The overall route remains simple, but timing may change with rain, trail conditions and park access. On the Bau Sau day, the guide may adjust departure time to make the walk more comfortable.
