Located near Ho Chi Minh City, Can Gio Mangrove forest is one of several good sites for a single day of birding. The mangroves attract several passerine species such as Yellow-vented Bulbul, Pied Fantail, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, and Golden-bellied Gerygone. Kingfishers, Herons, and Cormorants are also common here.

In winter (December-April), many wader species come to stay in the area, greatly increasing its species abundance. Spoon-billed Sandpiper has been seen here few times in 2005, 2008, 2010, 2023, and other species highlights are White-faced Plover, Nordmann’s Greenshank, Red Knot, Red-necked Stint, and Broad-billed Sandpiper, all of which are found here easily.

Itinerary for 1 day Birding Tour in Ho Chi Minh City

Depending upon on season and tide height, we will plan our birding time accordingly. Anyway, you will be picked up in Ho Chi Minh in the early morning and then drive about 2.5 hours through the Binh Khanh ferry. When we get there, we will spend a full day birding, sometimes we change the order of the muddy-shore birding, and birding in the salt pans and in the mangrove forests.

Lunch will be provided at a restaurant nearby before our afternoon birding.

Return to your hotel in the late afternoon.

Bird highlights: White-faced Plover, Painted Stork, Nordmann’s Greenshank, and many other waders in winter, and Asian Dowitcher, Asian Golden Weaver.

Bird fauna - Birding While dominant habitat type at Can Gio, plantation mangrove, is of relatively low importance for key bird species, the intertidal mudflats and sandbanks at the site are important habitats for migratory waterbirds. Several rare waterbird species have been recorded at the site, including Spotted Greenshank, Asian Dowitcher, Spot-billed Pelican and Painted Stork. In addition, the globally endangered Black-faced Spoonbill has been recorded at the site, although it is not believed to regularly occur in significant numbers. After across Sai Gon River, We'll spend almost our time for searching many habitat as possible to have high chance for birds and other thing.
