This birding tour in Cat Tien National Park offers an excellent opportunity to explore Vietnam’s premier birding location, renowned for its fascinating lowland forest avifauna. Nestled just 150km northeast of bustling Ho Chi Minh City, Cat Tien National Park presents an unparalleled birding destination.
Cat Tien National Park, also known as Nam Cat Tien, stands as one of Vietnam’s last remaining pristine lowland forests, making it a haven for avifauna. This lush sanctuary is home to 16 globally threatened bird species, including two waterbirds not spotted since 1993: the White-shouldered Ibis and the White-winged Duck.
With a total of approximately 320 recorded bird species, Cat Tien ranks among Vietnam’s premier birding destinations, offering a predominantly lowland broadleaf forest and forest edge habitat. Notable sightings include the Germain’s Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Orange-necked Partridge, Pale-headed and Black-and-buff Woodpecker, Blyth’s (Javan) Frogmouth, Grey-faced Tit-Babbler, and various endemic subspecies. Additionally, it provides excellent opportunities to observe Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied Pitta.

Day 1 (L, D): We’ll pick you up in Saigon early in the morning for a 150km drive (approximately 3.5 hours) to Cat Tien National Park. Upon arrival, we’ll commence our exploration during the afternoon.
Our birding hides offer fantastic opportunities to spot key species like the Germain’s Peacock Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Green-legged Partridge, Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied Pittas, alongside many other common species.
Day 2 (B, L, D): For photography enthusiasts, we can return to our hides to perfect your shots, or opt for birding along trails and tracks to seek out Kingfishers, Broadbills, Trogons, Pigeons, Bulbuls, and more.
In the afternoon, we’ll explore the park headquarters area in pursuit of the Grey-faced Tit Babbler, Woodpeckers, Green Pigeons, and Nightjars.
Day 3 (B, L): Morning brings an exciting jeep ride to Heaven Rapids, offering sightings of the Pale-headed and Black-and-buff Woodpeckers, Black-and-red, Banded, and Dusky Broadbills.
In the afternoon, we’ll depart for Ho Chi Minh City, concluding our birding adventure.”
