Why birding in Takou National Reserve?
Tà Kóu National Reserve is one of the largest coastal forests in Vietnam, covering a core area of 11,866 hectares, with Ta Kou Mountain standing 697 meters high and spanning 1,104 hectares. This is one of the most important biodiversity hotspot for wildlife conservation and provides home to six primate species, including two endangered leaf monkeys, three macaques, and a loris. Notably, the Annamese silvered langur (Trachypithecus margarita) and the black-shanked douc (Pygathrix nigripes) are of special interest, as this area marks the southeasternmost range for both species.

In Ta Kou, Annamese silvered langurs and black-shanked doucs are mainly found on the mountain, while the three macaque species roam across the reserve and are often seen near farmland. The pygmy loris has been spotted both on the mountain and in the surrounding forests.
Besides primates, birdlife here is also remarkable. The mix of dry open forests and mountain habitats provides a great environment for many bird species, making it an interesting spot for birdwatching.
