Vietnamese Endemic Bird Areas

In 1998, BirdLife International identified three important bird and Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs) in Vietnam: the Annamese Lowlands, the Da Lat Plateau, and the South Vietnamese Lowlands. More recent studies have uncovered two additional EBAs: the Kon Tum Plateau and the South-East Chinese Mountains. Furthermore, Vietnam contributes to the Fan Si Pan and Northern Laos Secondary Area. These designations highlight key regions crucial for bird conservation and underscore Vietnam's significance in preserving avian biodiversity.

The best time

North Vietnam offers optimal birding conditions during the dry season from October to April, with a cooler temperature ranging from 17-22°C. The coldest months, January to March, may require warm clothing due to cloudiness. Central Vietnam experiences hot and dry weather from mid-January to late August, with peak rainfall in October and November. Birding in this region is best from December to May. In the south, with constant temperatures between 25-35°C, the dry season from November to April is ideal for birding. For Cat Tien National Park and Dalat, November to July is recommended, while Can Gio Mangrove Forest is best visited from December to March during the shorebirds' wintering season.
