Frogs and Toads​

With ≈ 300 recorded species, Vietnam’s anurans range from thumb-sized flying frogs that glide between canopy gaps to cryptic torrent toads clinging to waterfalls. Perfect for macro lenses, casual herpers, and anyone chasing colourful photo trophies.

Lizards​

Lizards make up almost half of Vietnam’s reptile roster—> 250 species of agamids, geckos, skinks, monitors, and more. Expect horned dragons that glide between trees and rock geckos patterned like forest lichens—perfect for macro lenses and slow-mo video.

Snakes​

With ~ 200 recorded snake species (about one quarter venomous), the country ranges from king cobras and jewel pit-vipers to 22 sleek sea-snake species. Our red-light night walks keep a safe distance.

Turtles & Crocodiles​

Vietnam is home to 26 native freshwater turtles and tortoises, two of them endemic, plus the last wild Siamese crocodiles hiding in ‘Bau Sau”. Dawn canoe drifts give quiet, low-impact views of these ancient survivors.

Vietnam’s premier herping destinations span from north to south, each offering unique habitats and species. For quick 5–10 day trips, head to Cat Tiên, Ma Đa and Dalat Plateau in the south. For deeper exploration, venture north to Cuc Phương, Tam Đảo and Ba Bể, or explore central gems like Phong Nha–Ke Bang, Bach Mã and the Kon Tum Plateau.

The central highlands showcase Phong Nha–Ke Bang NP’s underground rivers and caves filled with King Cobras, cave geckos and the rare Annam Wartfrog. Bach Ma NP’s cloud-shrouded peaks support Pseudocalotes Ziegleri and Acanthosaura natalia, while Ngọc Linh and the Kon Tum Plateau reveal endemic forest frogs and skinks.

North
In northern Vietnam, Cuc Phuong NP’s karst forests harbor Mossy Frogs, cave-dwelling caecilians and elusive King Cobras. Tam Đảo NP’s misty slopes are home to Tam Dao salamander and Indochinese Flying Frogs, while Ba be NP combines lakeshores and limestone cliffs where Tonkin Bug-eyed Frogs.

South​
In the south, Cat Tien NP’s mosaic of rainforest and wetlands shelters Vietnam Tree Frogs, Sunbeam Snakes and Cat Tiên Bent-toed Geckos. Ma Đa Nature Reserve’s bamboo groves teem with Paddy Frogs, and Can Gio peat swamps and mangroves host Mangrove Snakes and diverse treefrogs ideal for night-time spotlighting.
