GEOGRAPHY
The Đà Lạt Plateau, also known as the Lang Biang Plateau, is a region located in southeastern Vietnam. At its heart lies the charming city of Da Lat. This picturesque plateau is characterized by numerous mountains, some of which soar to heights exceeding 2,000 meters (6,562 feet). The tallest peak in this area is the Chư Yang Sin Summit, standing at an impressive 2,442 meters. Wildlife enthusiasts will find ample opportunities for exploration in locations such as Di Linh, Bidoup Nui Ba National Park, and the surroundings of Dalat city.
Biodiversity

UNIQUE SPECIES
Gray-crowned Crocias
Resembles a three-way cross of a shrike, a sibia, and a laughingthrush. Black robber’s-mask, warm orange-brown back, streaked white underparts, and long gray tail with white tips below. Often seen in pairs of small flocks, sometimes mixed in with other species. Forages in the canopy, clambering around in search of prey. Inhabits mid-elevation forest, often in wetter areas. Song is a series of rapid-fire high-pitched chitters.
Orange-breasted Laughingthrush
Dull-brown laughingthrush with a dark throat, speckled orange breast, and a thin ochre-orange line curving elegantly over the eye. Dark bill is heavy-looking and somewhat corvid-like. Restricted to the Langbian Plateau in southern Vietnam, where it is unlikely to be confused with any other species. Inhabits foothill and submontane forest, forest edge, and scrubby areas with dense ground cover. Forages low in dense vegetation or on the ground, usually in pairs of flocks. Can be difficult to see as it scratches about furtively. Musical song is quite beautiful and incorporates some mimicry.
Vietnamese Cutia
A bulky, heavyset bird with a murderous-looking hooked bill. Very similar in appearance to Himalayan Cutia, but ranges do not overlap. Male has blue-gray crown and wing patch, midnight-black mask, orange back and rump, and black-barred white underparts. Female of southern population is much duller, with a dark brown head and streaked brown back. (Northern female has not yet been described.) Inhabits both broadleaved and coniferous hill forest. Moves sluggishly, often in mixed flocks. Song is loud and repetitive, consisting of somewhat twangy whistles and more fluid, warbled notes.
Vietnamese greenfinch
A flashing vision in midnight black and daffodil-yellow with a deeply forked tail. Male averages darker than the female with a solid black back and dark streaking on the breast. Female has a patchier back and thinner streaks than the male. Both sexes have a dark head, a thin yellow collar, and bright wing panels. Inhabits foothills and mountainous pine forests and adjacent edges. Favors the Khasi pine where it can be found foraging in small flocks. Gives dry twitters and a typical finchlike wheezy upswept note. Song is usually a series of dry, “ticking” trills followed by an upswept note.
Collared laughingthrush
Halloween-themed laughingthrush: decked out in black, gray, and orange. Combination of black head, silver ear patch, orange neck and breast, and multicolored wings are unmistakable in range. Bizarrely reminiscent in patterning of much smaller Silver-eared Mesia and Golden-breasted Fulvetta. Inhabits mid- to high-altitude forests, where it rummages around in the understory in small groups. Makes an odd rising, screaming yodel that sounds strangely like the call of an Indian Peafowl.
Rhacophorus vampyrus
Rhacophorus vampyrus is a recently discovered vampire treefrog with a snout-vent length for males of 42.5 - 44.8 mm and females of 38.9 - 53.4 mm. The head length is almost equal to the head width and the head is slightly wider than the width of the body. The pupils are horizontally elongated and the snout is truncated. The tympanum is barely visible externally and they have a weak supratympanic fold. The body is dorsoventrally compressed and the forelimbs are relatively robust and the hindlimbs are long and slender. The dorsal skin is smooth, the ventral surface of thighs and belly is coarsely granular, and the chest and throat is smooth. The tips of the digits are expanded into well developed large disks that bearing circummarginal grooves.
Brachytarsophrys intermedia
Large size, can reach 11 cm. The body is flattened, the head is wider than it is long. The skin ridges on the eyelids are very well developed. The tympanic membrane is clear, the ridge on the tympanic membrane is present. The legs and arms are short and fat, and the feet have moderately developed skin membranes. The back is smooth with many pimples, growing larger on both sides, and two ridges of skin on the back develop. The back is brown, the sides of the back and hips have short black streaks, the belly is dark brown. Brown pupils.
Raorchestes gryllus
Raorchestes gryllus is a species of amphibians in the family Old World tree frogs. They are listed as vulnerable by IUCN. They have sexual reproduction. They rely on saltation to move around.

Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park, situated in the centre of Langbiang plateau in the north of Lam Dong province, was established under the Prime Minister’s Decision No. 1240/QD-TTg on 19th November 2004. The Park, recognised by UNESCO in 2015, covers an area of 70,038 hectares in the core area of Langbiang World Biosphere Reserve. In 2018, the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian National Parks recognised Bidoup-Nui Ba National Park as an ASEAN Heritage Park.
