Find out about [7-Day Expedition] Discovering Vietnam’s Herpetofauna: Exploring the Biodiversity of Cat Tien National Park and the Dalat Plateau. Cat Tien National Park and Dalat Plateau are among the best spots for herping tours due to their rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems. The parks are home to a diverse range of reptiles and amphibians, including many rare and endemic species.
Cat Tien National Park is located in the lowland rainforest of Southern Vietnam, while the Dalat Plateau is situated in the highlands of the central region. Both regions offer a variety of habitats, from wetlands and rivers to dense forests and grasslands, making them ideal for a wide range of herping experiences. Whether you are an experienced herpetologist or a novice enthusiast, these two destinations offer an unforgettable opportunity to explore and discover the fascinating world of reptiles and amphibians.

What is the best time for herping in Cat Tien and Dalat Plateau?

The best time for herping in Cat Tien National Park and Dalat Plateau is during the rainy season, which typically runs from May to October. During this time, the weather is warm and humid, providing ideal conditions for amphibians and reptiles to be active and visible.

Additionally, the increased rainfall during this time leads to more vegetation growth, which in turn attracts more insects and other prey species for the herps to feed on. It’s important to note that while the rainy season is the best time for herping, it’s also the time of year when the trails and roads in these areas can be more difficult to navigate due to the wet conditions.
