Description:
Physical characteristics: Enhydris innominata is a relatively small snake with a body length of 8–13 cm at birth. The adults have a coloration similar to juveniles, typically a dark brown or blackish hue on the dorsal side with lighter tones underneath.
Distribution and habitat:
Elevation: Found in lowland freshwater habitats, typically below 500 meters above sea level.
Area: Enhydris innominata is native to southern Vietnam, specifically recorded in Tay Ninh Province. It is also confirmed to occur in Cambodia, with potential distribution in Thailand.
Habitat: This species inhabits freshwater wetlands, including ponds, marshes, and seasonally flooded agricultural land. It is commonly found in low-lying swamp forests, freshwater marshes, and irrigation ditches, often in areas influenced by seasonal water flow.
Behaviour and ecology:
Lifestyle: Enhydris innominata is both diurnal and nocturnal, actively hunting throughout the day and night. It primarily preys on small fish and amphibians, such as frogs, within its wetland environment.
Reproduction: This species is ovoviviparous, giving birth to live young. Females can give birth to between 6 and 30 offspring per clutch, with the young snakes measuring around 8–13 cm at birth.
